Changes to Critical Access Provider Based and Co-location Requirements
On November 1 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the FY 2008 Final Rule for the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS). Included in this OPPS rule, to be published in the Federal Register on November 27, was the awaited "clarification" of the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) rules related to provider based and co-located facilities.

Annual CRNA Cost Exemption from the Fee Schedule Election due by 11/30/07:
For rural hospitals that have made this election in the past or for those intending to make this calendar year 2008 election for the first time, this is an annual election due to your intermediary no later than November 30th, 2007. This election entitles a facility to CRNA cost reimbursement if less than 800 surgical cases requiring anesthesia are performed annually and other criteria as listed in 42 CFR§412.113 are met.
