Starting in January 2009, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will begin the national rollout of its recovery audit contractor program, following a three-year pilot project designed to rectify coding errors, address medical procedures not covered by federal guidelines and work out other billing and documentation kinks.
By January 2010, no state will be immune. CMS will rollout Recovery Audit Contractor reviews across the United States and every Healthcare provider that bills Medicare Part A and Part B will feel the pain.
